Rock Out Climbing Press Release

Ready for a "Boulder" Destin?

Local military family sets their sights on building a climbing community with the May 2017 opening of a premier, indoor rock climbing facility

With the opening of Rock Out Climbing Gym, owners Ken and Sam Sheyka, plan to bring the sport of indoor climbing to the Emerald Coast. As former members of the United States Air Force, Ken and Sam are no strangers to reaching for new heights, and as parents to a brand-new baby boy, they are not afraid of a challenge either.  Passion about fitness, adventure and a mutual love of climbing fuel this power couple's drive toward building a local climbing community.

"After years of driving for hours in multiple directions to quench our thirst for climbing,
my wife and I decided that the Emerald Coast needed a dedicated climbing facility of its
own."
- Ken Sheyka, Rock Out Climbing Gym

Coming in at an estimated 8,000 sqft. with a 20-foot vertical clearance, the newly constructed building contains the gym's uniquely designed bouldering walls inlaid with a destination inspired wave element. The facility will offer a traditional fitness area containing equipment like a treadmill, a rower, a bike, kettlebells and wall balls to get warmed up. The gym also offers a multi-purpose room to host birthday parties or corporate team-building outings and retail space dedicated to all things bouldering.

"Climbing draws a wide range of ages who want to be social and active. It's a neat social
draw to be pushed out of your comfort zone and to have people there who are consistently
supportive."
- Ken Sheyka, Rock Out Climbing Gym
